Danæg A/S is Denmark's leading provider of eggs to the consumer.

Sorting and packing of eggs demand high standards of hygiene.
That is why Danæg A/S uses dry ice blast cleaning to remove resin from their microwave ovens.

Environmental considerations mean that the packaging plant re-uses pallets, cardboard and trays for collection of eggs at the producers'. To prevent bacterial contamination, all materials are warmed to at least 75 °C in a microwave oven before they are returned to the egg-producers. The heat causes the resin in the wooden pallets to seep out and run down onto the oven floor where it settles and re-solidifies.

"Dry ice blast cleaning is the only way we can clean the ovens" comments Head of Packaging, Erik V. Jensen who continues "Cleaning of the two ovens takes about three hours, and the resin is blown out in a powder form. This is the best method to clean the ovens, as it is a non-abrasive process which does not cause wear and tear on the ovens. The alternative would be to soften the resin in solvents for several hours, which would give problems with obnoxious odours and removal of the solvent afterwards - and neither is it particularly eco-friendly."
